Story

The series is a romantic comedy with various references to fairy tales such as "Little Red Riding Hood," "The Ant and the Grasshopper," etc. with most of the story set in a city called Otogibana City (Otogibana-shi).

Ookami Ryouko (aka Ookami-san) is a spunky high school girl with a masculine attitude. She is a member of a "fixer" club more popularly known as the "Otogi Bank". The club solves various problems around the city with her partner Akai Ringo (Akazukin-chan) and four other members.

Later on, a new member emerges: he is Morino Ryoushi, a boy whose case of scopophobia (or fear of being stared at) gave him an image of a cowardly person. However, his confession to Ryouko changes things around, and with him joining the Otogi Bank, the adventures of Ryouko and her seven companions begin.
..............................

Main Characters:

Ryouko Ookami is the main heroine of the anime. She's 16 years old and has a very fierce personality, just like a wolf.

Personality

In the animeology she is considered a tsundere; In the beginning she shows a lot of hosility towards Ryoushi but eventually begins to accept him more as the story progresses.

Ryouko has a weak spot for cute dogs. When she first saw Elizabeth and Francoise, she decided to pet them, despite not knowing who the owner was (discovering it later to be Ryoshi). She is later shown to be fond of them whenever they see each other.

As seen in the series, she also has a soft spot for other animals and she enjoys reading romance novels, written by Ryoshi's aunt. Each time she engages in an activity like this, she always checks to make sure no one she knows is watching her.

Appearance

She has very long, light-brown hair and brown colored eyes. She has a very similar appearance to Aisaka Taiga, "The Palm-top Tiger", from the anime "ToraDora" with the only difference being her height and their hair texture. She appears to be about 169cm tall if not a little less. She has a tall, yet slim figure for her age.

Her common outfit is a black short sleeved sailor school girl uniform with red trim, a red tie, a black, ankle length skirt with slits at the sides and held up by a loose, white belt, black knee length socks, and brown knee length boots with black laces and toes. The soles of her boots have a wolf paw-print on the bottom.

Relationships

Akai Ringo: She is Ryouko's best friend and most trusted companion. After Ryouko had broken up with Hitsujikai Shiro and changed her personality to be more of a tough girl, she became secluded and did not open up to anybody. Ringo was the first person who tried to be friends with Ryouko, and since then, Ryouko has opened up to her. Ringo often tries to get Ryouko to admit that she has a crush on Ryoushi or at least be honest about her feelings. This can usually range from suggesting a romantic relationship with Ryoushi (in episode 2) or telling Ryouko to tail Ryoushi on his date with Himura Machiko (in episode 12). Ryouko tends to ask Ringo for advice on certain things, such as when she asked for her opinion on what Ryoushi would like as a "reward" for helping to save her.

Morino Ryoushi: Ryouko and Ryoushi have a very interesting relationship. In the beginning, while doing normal jobs, Ryouko sees Ryoushi as a screw-up who cannot do anything right. However, in a fight she knows that he has got her back 100%. The two are a very good combination when it comes to fighting, with Ryouko's excellent boxing skills and Ryoushi's extremely accurate slingshot, few stand a chance at taking them down. Throughout the entire series, Ryoushi is in love with Ryouko and confesses this to her as early as the beginning of episode 1. Even though Ryouko is seen blushing at almost every mention of his feelings for her, she has no real feelings for him. However, as the series goes on, Ryouko eventually develops deep romantic feelings for Ryoushi. The reason for her feelings are never explained and she refuses to admit to those feelings to him or to anyone else. She does care a lot about him as a friend and often gets jealous late in the series when he is with other girls. She will even lie to herself and others about doing things that involve Ryoushi simply because she cannot admit to her feelings. When the two are alone, however, she does show a softer and more friendlier side to him than she normally would.

Hitsujikai Shirou: Hitsujikai Shiro is Ryouko's ex-boyfriend and is the main reason that Ryouko's personality is so unladylike. In the past, he tried to abuse her (but told Ryoushi that he tried to rape her in order to see Ryoushi's reaction) and because she was so weak, Ryouko could do little to defend herself. However, when Ryouko tried to tell others about how Shiro tried to abuse her, no one believed her because Shiro had made the other students think it was all Ryouko's fault. Since then, Ryouko realized that there is no one that she can rely on but herself. For that reason, she secluded herself and became a self-reliant, self-sufficient tomboy who can hold her own against anyone who thinks they can take advantage of her. Throughout the series, Shiro tries multiple times to take her hostage and use her as he did in the past. Some of these attempts are initially successful, only to be ruined by Ryoushi, along with the rest of the Otogi Bank.

Mythical the king of demon phantoms: Mythical and Ryouko are enemys  well sort of.

Notices

  • She is considered a tsundere character.
  • She uses 2 neko boxing gloves when in combat.
  • Her character is based on the wolf from the fairytale "Little Red Riding Hood". Though on several occasions she is shown to be very different from her base character; she mostly tries to act and be like the wolf, "wearing a wolf's clothing" instead of "wearing a sheep's clothing".
  • She shows many similarities to Taiga Aisaka from the hit anime, Toradora!
  • She has the tendency to hide her true personality behind a strong and "lone wolf" like personality, even though she truly is actually kind and gentle
  • She has a slight resemblance to Holo the wolf goddess from the anime Spice And Wolf.
...................

Morino Ryoushi is the male protagonist in the anime. He is 16 years old and has a crush on Ryouko. He even confessed to her in the first episode but got rejected almost immediately. Ringo tries to recruit him but her idea gets rejected by Ryouko. No one actually pays attention to him which can be very handy in infiltration missions but if someone actually does he tends to screw up the mission. After proving himself that he is worthy enough to be Ryouko's partner, she eventually accepts him into the group.

Personality

He has a very shy and cowardly personality and gets extremely nervous when people are staring at him (Ophthalmophobia), but when all circumstances are good, he can be exceptional in supporting his friends and Ryouko.

Ryoushi has shown to be observant, as taught by his grandfather. This makes him suited for infiltration missions. Also, this makes him aware of the purpose of the actions of others, such as Ryouko's "tough" personality and Machiko's "clumsiness" and antics.

Ryoushi's character develops as the story continues. When Ryouko is kidnapped by Hitsujikai's lackeys, Ryoushi becomes determined to save her and is willing to fight, Hitsujikai himself head-on.

Appearance

He has mid-long, dark green-blue hair and green eyes. Most of the time, only one of his eyes are shown or none at all. He sometimes wears a slingshot on his left arm when he's in combat or when he's backing his partners up. He looks to be about 165cm tall.

Notes

  • He has a Slingshot, which uses Pachinko balls as ammunition (Note: Pachinko is a Japanese Pinball game) and is extremely accurate when aiming with it. He can even hit a baseball that is flying in mid-air.
  • Scopophobia is actually a real life anxiety disorder characterized by a morbid fear of being seen or stared at by others.
  • His character is based on the Hunter who captures the wolf in the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood."
  • Ryoushi's right eye tends to be open when he enters "manly" mode and left eye tends to be open when he is his normal self.
  • He has two Akita's he brought with him for the countryside, who's names are Elizabeth and Françoise. Both dogs are female.
.........................

Ringo Akai is a petite red-haired girl who has been longtime friends with Ryoko. She is the one who recruits Ryōshi into Otogi Bank. She is a close friend of Ryōko and is always trying to involve herself with her best friend's love life. Like she tends to smile to hide her true feelings, and admires Ryoko for trying to become stronger.

Personality

She appears to be a small innocent girl on the outside, but she is actually very manipulative, cunning, and conceited on the inside. She is very skilled at manipulating others and often uses this to her advantage. She also uses her conceited side to try to get Ryouko to admit her feelings for Ryoushi.

Appearance

She is very short for her age, almost child-like, even though she is as old as Ryouko. She has short reddish-brown hair. She wears a white dress with a red hooded cape like Little Red Riding Hood does. She also carries a picnic basket on occasion, which mirrors that of Little Red Riding Hood as well.

Notes

- She is based on the Little Red Riding Hood from the book of the same name, though some aspects of her scheming, manipulative personality closer resembles the poisoned apple, ("Ringo" means apple, and "Akai" means red) of Snow White, a fact which is occasionally referenced by the narrator and other characters.
- She is the half sister of "Snow White" aka Shirayuki Himeno and feels responsible for her past.
